Today, a digital camera is made to practically suit the needs of just about anyone. If you are the type of person who loves to take pictures of anything and everything under the sun, you can opt for the slimmer and cheaper cameras with a decent amount of megapixels. However, if you are someone who takes photography seriously you can opt for the more expensive DSLRs.

It is safe to say that more and more people have developed a sense of liking towards this little gadget. Why? Well simply because they end up to be faster, more economical and more convenient to use compared with the older film cameras we used to use.

They are economical because:

1. With digital cameras you would not have to repeatedly buy rolls of films to store the images that you have captured. You can simply use the camera's internal memory or a removable storage card. A storage card is much more expensive compared to a roll of film but since you get to reuse it, it will eventually pay for itself.

2. You get to save a lot of money on photo paper. By previewing the pictures in your computer or the camera's LCD screen, you get to print only the images that you want. The rest of the images can either be stored, burned to a CD or deleted.

They are more convenient to use because:

1. Unlike the older, manual units, most cameras, even the newer DSLRs work on an autofocus, point and shoot function. This means that the digital camera can detect the subject that you want to take a photo of and focus the lens for you. Technically making you one click away to a perfect photograph.

2. The built – in LCD screens can give you a preview of how your photos would turn out before you take it. This gives you the capability to adjust your shot if you need to. Moreover, this new hardware addition also doubles as an alternative to your regular viewfinder and they can help you take pictures at difficult angles. For example most of the Sony Alpha DSLR LCD screen can even be tilted to suit the viewing needs of the user.

3. Most of the newer digicams can also double as a video camcorder and player. If you feel that a photo is not enough to record an important milestone of your life, you can always switch to a video mode. When you are done, you can easily share those videos or images by simply hooking up the digicam to your television.

4. Last but not the least, because digital cameras are so common, there are a lot of repair centers to choose from that will be willing to help you with any problem that you might have with your camera. For example, if you need a Sony DSLR LCD repair, there are a lot of centers who can fix your LCD in no time, but make sure you shop around and compare price as many places will charge $200-300 for this repair when it can easily be done for under $200.

What's your preference?

Do you love film or are you fully digital?

  • They can have my film when they pry it from my cold...
  • Uhh... What's film?
